What are the risk factors for septic pelvic thrombophlebitis

In this study Sarah K. Dotters-Katz, from the University of North Carolina, led a team of researchers looking into the risk factors associated with septic pelvic thrombophlebitis (SPT). Out of 73,087 women who took part in the study 89 (0.1%) developed SPT. Black women, women under 20, women having their first baby, high blood pressure and having twins (or more) were all associated with an increased risk of SPT.
