Breast milk and eye problems in premature babies

Babies born prematurely can sometimes suffer from eye problems – retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). Some people think breast milk can help prevent ROP and in this study S.K. Bharwani led a team of researchers reviewing studies into this topic. The studies covered a total of 2,461 premature babies and the researchers concluded that “any amount of [breast milk] is strongly associated with protection from all ROP and severe ROP.”
